Geriatric Medicine in Severn offers excellent training opportunities with all subspeciality interests represented.
There are 26 NTNs in the region spread across 10 hospitals (BRI, Frenchay, Southmead, Weston, Bath, Swindon, Taunton, Yeovil, Cheltenham, Gloucester). The training rotation consists of a 5 year programme across these sites with opportunities for Out of Programme Experience either as Clinical Fellowships or in a period of Research.
As an area to live and work the South West has much to offer. An exciting period of regeneration has been taking place in Bristol. There is a regency town of Cheltenham and the City of Bath is a World Heritage site. Devon and Cornwall are within an hour or twos drive and the Welsh coast and mountains are similarly easily reached for those with a passion for the outdoors.

Specialist Training in Geriatric Medicine is a 5 year programme. Although it is usual to spend a year or 2 of this in a teaching hospital this is not essential. Training hospitals are chosen on a trainee's educational needs. Attachments are between 12-24 months in each location.
Training is provided across the region in:
- General geriatrics
- Acute geriatrics
- Orthogeriatrics and bone health
- Stroke Medicine
- Movement Disorders
- Psychogeriatrics and Dementia Care
- Palliative care
- Rehabilitation Medicine
As trainees' career aspirations take shape every effort is made to accommodate requests for sub-specialty training.
Regular training days are arranged throughout the year and reflect the current core curriculum in Geriatric Medicine.
There is a named Educational Supervisor in each of the hospitals on the Rotation.
Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) will take place in line with the requirements for Training laid out by the RCP/JRCPTB. DOPs MiniCEX, Knowledge based assessments and Multi source feedback will be adopted for all new trainees.
